It started with a whisper. A few texts, a post or two on social media—“Está nevando en el Teide!” And just like that, the island buzzed.

Snow had returned to Tenerife.

Yes, snow. On this sun-drenched island that so many know for its black-sand beaches and eternal spring, Teide—our majestic volcano—likes to remind us once a year that she wears many faces.

Last year, we woke up early one morning to the news that Teide had been blanketed in snow overnight. Not just a dusting, but a full cover, thick enough for snowball fights and, believe it or not, snowboarding. By midday, the winding roads leading to the national park were filled with cars, kids in wool hats, and even grown-ups awkwardly balancing on makeshift sleds. There were snowboards, actual slates brought up from garages, and even a few garbage-bag sleds that kids swore worked better than any Amazon find.

We were there too, drawn by the rare magic of it all. This is the magic of Tenerife.

One island. Two seasons. One day.

It reminded us of how lucky we are to live in a place that constantly surprises us. Where you can snowboard at sunrise and swim at sunset. Where adventure is always waiting—whether it’s hidden in the pine forests of La Esperanza, or right there, on a beach with black sand and warm breeze.

And sometimes, the best stories start with a snowflake.

Just a few hours later, we drove down from the crater’s rim, winding through the changing altitudes, back to a whole different climate. As the white disappeared in the rearview mirror, green and gold returned. Palm trees waved at us again. At the coast, it was 24 degrees and sun-drenched.

We headed south to visit friends at Barcelo. The sun was warm, the pool calm and glimmering. We traded jackets for t-shirts, and shared funny memories with our friends.
